The Assistant Head Lifeguard will assist the Head Lifeguard to carry out a variety
of duties including planning, scheduling, maintaining the seasonal operation of
the pool, and communicating with the BCC Board, Members, and Guests. The
Assistant Lifeguard works with the Head Lifeguard to ensure that the Briarcliff
Community Club is a safe and well-maintained place for its members to
participate in recreational activities. The Assistant Head Lifeguard shall be present
at the facilities for a fixed number of hours per week distributed over a fixed
number of days.
The following characteristics are desired: Maturity, reliability, effective
communication skills and effective decision-making skills.
- Experience as a lifeguard.
- Current certifications in American Red Cross (or equivalent organization) First Aid, and CPR.
- Current certifications in American Red Cross (or equivalent organization) Lifeguarding.
The Assistant Head Lifeguard has responsibility for safety at the facility, as well as
managerial, administrative, communication, maintenance, and leadership duties.
These responsibilities include:
Managerial/administrative
- Assist with the management of the Lifeguards and Staff, including the planning and organizing of work assignments, conduct Staff meetings as needed, and providing advice and coaching to the Staff.
- Meet with all Staff prior to the opening of the pool to go over safety rules, pool specific rules, scheduling, etc.
- Review and approve weekly timesheets.
- Submit the approved timesheets to the board member responsible for Staff.
- Discipline Staff for minor infractions including not performing expected responsibilities.
- Notify the board member responsible for Staff immediately of any infractions by Staff and any issues with members.
- Work with the board member responsible for Staff to determine appropriate discipline for Staff when not meeting expectations.
- Attend BCC Board meetings at the invitation of the Board president.
Facility
- Assist in the preparation of the facility for opening for the operating season.
- Assist in the closing of the facility at the end of the operating season.
- Oversee daily maintenance of the pool facilities. This includes communicating facility issues to the board member responsible for facilities and make recommendations for solutions.
- Delegate responsibilities for maintaining cleanliness of the pool, restrooms, and pool area, testing the pool water, etc. to full- and part-time guards.
- Assist with making sure that safety equipment is maintained and notifying the board member responsible for lifeguards immediately when items are worn or broken and need to be replaced.
- Coordinate with the Head Lifeguard to inventory pool supplies and equipment and notify the Head Lifeguard when pool supplies are needed, including but not limited to water test strips, chemicals, paper towels, toilet tissue, hand soap, etc.
Safety
- Establish a safety culture with the Staff that is commensurate with the
significant responsibilities of being a Staff.
- Ensure all BCC members, their families, and guests follow the Briarcliff Community Club Rules and Regulations, especially regarding safety and appropriate behavior while using the BCC facilities.
- Administer First Aid, CPR, emergency, and other emergency protocols as required.
- Ensure all Staff are familiar with the BCC Rules and Regulations.
Communications
- Communicate effectively with the Lifeguards, Staff, BCC members and guests, and the BCC Board.
- Notify the Pool Board immediately of any safety, facility issues or membership issues that arise during the operation of the facility.
- Notify the board member responsible for Staff immediately any time there are not sufficient Staff available to cover a shift.
Lifeguards work with the Head Lifeguard and Assistant Head Lifeguard to ensure

present at the facilities for a fixed number of hours per week distributed over a

safety operation of the pool and communicating with the BCC Board, members,
and guests. Staff employees have primary responsibility to ensure that the
Briarcliff Community Club is a safe and clean place for its members and guests to
participate in recreational activities. Staff employees shall be present at the
facilities for a fixed number of hours per week distributed over a fixed number of
days in accordance with a weekly schedule.
The following characteristics are desired: Maturity, reliability and dependability,
effective communication skills, and effective decision-making skills.
- Current certifications in American Red Cross (or equivalent organization) First Aid and CPR.
Staff employees have responsibility for cleanliness and safety at the facility. These responsibilities include:
Facility
- Assist in the preparation of the facility for opening for the operating season.
- Maintain clean and stocked restrooms. Bathrooms are checked every 30 minutes.
- Check and pull trash as needed at the beginning and during of every shift.
- Greet BCC Members and guests and assisting with sign in and any document updating.
- Assist BCC Members with updating BCC Membership roster information as needed.
- Clean tables and arrange chairs as needed during a shift.
- Assist in the closing of the facility at the end of the operating season.
- Communicate facility issues to the Head Lifeguard or Assistant Head Lifeguard and make recommendations for solutions to facility issues.
Safety
- Assist Lifeguards to ensure all members, their families, and guests follow the Briarcliff Community Club Rules and Regulations.
